Crowns and Bridges

At Beautiful Smile Dental, we provide dental crowns to protect any weakened teeth, conceal tooth flaws, restore dental implants or anchor a dental bridge. Yes, dental crowns are very versatile.

Our dental team thinks a smile is the most beautiful thing you can wear, which is why we offer tooth replacement options in Walkerville and Richmond as well. This includes the time-tested and practical dental bridge, which relies on the versatile dental crown for stability.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a cap that goes over a treated tooth or a dental implant post. It can also anchor a dental bridge. A dental crown is shaped and shaded to match your adjacent teeth, and it is unlikely that anyone will guess you have a crown. Even you are likely to forget as time goes by.

Dental Crowns

Dr Jim Moutos and his associate, Dr Jason Eng, use dental crowns for a variety of purposes.

In general dentistry, a dental crown often caps a vulnerable tooth following root canal therapy. The tooth crown creates a buffer between the weak tooth and your bite force, which helps prevent tooth breakage and loss.

Following root replacement in implant dentistry, a tooth crown takes the place of your missing tooth.

In cosmetic dentistry, a dental crown conceals the following:

  • Tooth shape issues
  • Discolouration
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Chips or cracks

A dental crown also works in harmony with a dental bridge to complete your smile if you have a missing tooth or teeth.

A Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is one or two teeth suspended between dental crowns—one on either side. The dental crowns cap the healthy teeth to the left and right of your smile gap, allowing the restoring teeth to complete your smile.

Your dental bridge is a fixed restoration, which means you do not have to worry about slippage or adhesives.

However, we recommend using a small brush and floss threader to clean your bridge and to remove the debris near the gumline.

While crowns and bridges can restore your smile, no restoration can prevent cavities on your remaining teeth or gum disease. An excellent oral care routine at home and regular dental visits are the best course when it comes to maintaining your oral health and caring for your crowns and bridge.
